When I painted this watercolor, I was thinking about the countless footprints, which I've come across during my years of dune exploration on Hatteras. Someone once said that footprints in the sand are a metaphor for the invisible footprints that our loved ones leave on our hearts.  It was a lovely sentiment, one that I held onto it during the creation of "The Dune Path in Summer" while I paid homage to my loved ones as I remembered them.
